What languages are spoken in your own communities?
Japanese, Arabic, Chinese, Greek and Macedonian.

Is the official language of your country the same as your mother tongue?
In Colombia the mother tongue and official language is Spanish.

What are the reasons for this?
The unique reason is that we were conquered by the Spanish

What language and culture best represents you?
My Culture and my language that represents me is Hispanic because I grew up with these traditions.

No there aren't

No I'm always autentic, in my thoughts and actions.

Yes I think foeing language learning should be fostered because we can know others cultures.

In Colombia the second language is English because this open lifestyle and bussines oportunities.

There weren't choices English is the second language there.

What is the attitude of people towards learning a foreign language in your country?
Colombian people accept other languages because is very good for their personal growp and development.

In Colombia people who can speak other language have better status.

like first choose is English follow by French.

In Australia people accept other cultures because there are so many inmigrants alredy here that It is common place to see them and interact with each other in a harmonious way. I n contrast in Colombia every one is latin in origin so that forenge people stand out from the crowd.
People are ignorant other cultures.

What Were the main challenges and discoveries when trying to adapt to a new language and
culture?
The language is the most important, the customs, traditions etc.

Do you think that your studies prepared you for it?
yes because when you are learning other languages Its prepared you for the things that being in the future

Intercultural exchenges will continue to take place in Sydney amoung minority groups trought living together and working together.

The impacts on the comunity will be greater because Its is very important for get a good job and development in the society

It was a weekend when they used to go to the Blue Mountains. They used to get dressed up in the traditional clothes of the musical period they were playing.

She doesn't play more because she is busy with teaching.

I like the winner 2006 Archibald Prize (The Paul Juraszek Monolith by Marcus Wills) because:
· The images features are based on the Apocalypse
· The painting reflects a composition of doom and every day life
· The use and play of light and shadows and colours in the painting
· The depiction of sadness in the characters portrayed, and the tragedy of life
· The skull is mysteriously evil and yet there are good deeds being depicted

Marcus Wills was born in Kaniva Victoria in 1972, he studied arts when he was young and won many exhibitions. He painted the Paul Juraszek Monolith 29 times and the characteristics of his painting are only from his imagination. Due to his effort and passion in art, he is now a great painter.

2. Which portrait do you like the least? Why?

I don't like Edmund by Adam Cullen because his painting is so scary and looks horrible and the man’s face looks deformed with bleeding hands.

Quindío a place to visit.

Colombia is divided into departments which are the Australian equivalent to States. There are 32 of them, and The Quindío is the smallest and the youngest (founded in 1889). It is located to the west of Bogota (Colombia’s capital) and its capital city is called Armenia.

Armenia is located to the west of the Cordillera Central (elevation 1483m), between the Espejo and Quindío rivers. It has a predominantly tropical climate with temperatures maintaining 18-24°C all year round. The city is the main trunk line of the west-central Colombian transport way. This transport route is a link to Colombia’s leading coffee-producing regions. The area has other primary industry ventures that include bananas, corn (maize), sugarcane, beans, and tomatoes among others. This industry supports a Quindío population of around 550,000 people.

Quindío also has beautiful landscapes, rich agricultural soils, traditional architecture, and prized old buildings. There are many tourist places to visit, among them:
The National Coffee Park - that allows us to learn about the tradition, production, and coffee culture.
Panaca – the national agriculture and livestock park where we can experience the beautiful lives of farming communities.
Guadua and Bamboo Museum – a place where people can learn the art of traditional construction methods using guadua and bamboo sticks.
Quimbaya Museum – this museum recently won the National Architecture Prize and has many collections of pre-Columbian art.
Cocora Valley – where we can find a variety of flora and fauna, and the typical wax palms of Quindío (the tallest palm tree species in the world and the national floral icon).

Armenia is a ‘Cuidad Milagro’ (City of Miracles), called so for its great urban growth and development in such short time. The people of Armenia are nice, friendly, and live happily in this region. We also have popular festivals throughout the year. In January we can enjoy bull fighting; in August the Kites Festival; in October the Independence Celebrations and the National Coffee Pageant Contest.
Economically, The Quindío is the most important tourist area of Colombia. So come and visit us sometime.

Emerald a Colombian Icon

Colombia is the major world producer of emeralds. Indigenous people’s legend tells the story of emeralds being the tears from a goddess. The name comes from Greek and it means ‘the green stone’. They are classified as the third precious stone – the first one being diamonds, and the second one rubies.

During the Spanish conquest of South America, many emeralds were taken from rich deposits in Colombia. The principal mines of emerald production in South America are the mines at Muzo and Chivor in Colombia. Other important world producers are Zambia, Brazil, and Russia.

Emeralds are minerals composed mostly of Beryl silicates, and are naturally occurring in calcite and bituminous limestone veins. Artificial emeralds can also be ‘grown’ and are very difficult to distinguish from the natural stones.

A trip to Afghanistan

Touring Europe

1. Mirella back two weeks before Uni. started.
2.She finished the exams at the end of November.
3.She started the trtip at the begining of December.

6. She was traveling with her boyfriend.

8.She stayed at the boyfriend's grandma home.
9.She found england very interesting it was very expensive and very cold compare to Australia.

International women's day is celebrated all over the world on March 8 th every year.
by women of all ages and cultures.
This date is also commemorated at the United Nations and is designated as a national holiday in some countries. I It is day where all come together to celebrate the achievements women have made in their communities and in their lives.
I wish all women of this class to have a good International Women's day !!

ARRANGED MARRIAGES

In my opinion an arranged marriage has one or all of three qualities:
Where at least one parther does not agree with the marriage has one or all of three are external influences on the couple (eg family and relatives) ; there may also be economic and /or socialissues.
Arranged marriages do not exist in Colombia although some of these characteristies could have influenced relationships in the past especially those of our grandparents generation.
It is a very important in my culture the parent's opinion with the respect to the issue of marriage; but the final word on the matter is always ours.
In fact parents are not usually invoulded in introducing prospective partners. We meet new people through our friends first; then we start dating to get to know each other (eg going to the movies, going dancing ,having a coffee together) etc.
Dating maybe anywhere between one week, to three years and parents only get to meet the partner when the relationship becames more formal.
There fewer divorces because generally such pressures are not acceptable in my culture people who marry do so because they have made that decision themselves after getting to know each other. There maybe opinions and advice from friends family and neighbours along the way, but these are seldom defining the outcame of the couples reasoning for marriage.
Generally we have freedom to choose who our partners are.

My Holidays

Last summer holidays my friend Claudia and I travelled to the city of Cartagena.

Cartagena is an important holiday resort in Colombia. It has a beautiful beach and historic buildings.

Many people visit Cartagena every year. In our hotel there were visitors from all over the world, especially from the United States of America.

Usually we had breakfast in the hotel restaurant, eg eggs, bacon, toast and coffee of course!

Every morning we went to the beach. Claudia didn't stay in the water very long because she can't swim. It was fantastic , then we visited Saint Phillip's Castle and went shopping and walked in the old town.

After we came back to the hotel in the afternoon and had wine and relax, we enjoyed ourselves we had a lovely time.
